It was 2:17 a.m. when I smelled something wrong. The kiln temperature had climbed past cone 10 and the controller was locked. I had no idea who to call or what to touch. I found Canvas and had the emergency number in thirty seconds.

My thesis crit was in fourteen hours and the printmaking lab card reader stopped working at 11 p.m. I had three plates left to print. Canvas had the after-hours facilities coordinator's direct number — she met me there in twenty minutes.

Safety & Medical
A developer tank tipped in the darkroom — stop bath everywhere, some splashed near my face. I didn't know if I needed to call 911 or just rinse. Canvas walked me through exactly what to do and who to notify. I had the decontamination steps before the fumes cleared.

The studio flooded the night before my scholarship portfolio was due. Water under the door, work on the floor. I was shaking. Canvas had the emergency extension request form, my advisor's cell number, and the scholarship committee contact all in one place. I submitted at 6 a.m. and got a 48-hour extension.
